Presidents Discuss Expansion of Iran-China Ties – Politics news

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping held a meeting in Beijing on Tuesday, September 2.

Conveying the warm greetings of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, Pezeshkian praised China’s successful chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, highlighting Iran’s support for Beijing’s achievements.

He also voiced Tehran’s endorsement of Xi’s initiative on global governance reform.

Stressing that Iran is determined to maximize relations with China under any circumstances, Pezeshkian criticized the US for pursuing unilateralist policies through aggression against other nations.

Pezeshkian assured Xi that China can count on Iran as a strong and reliable partner, adding that the Islamic Republic’s principal goal is to promote peace and stability in the region and to resist oppression, aggression, and unilateralism.

The Iranian president underlined Tehran’s readiness, in line with the policies of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, to expand cooperation with China across all fields, including through the practical implementation of the 25-year comprehensive partnership agreement.

He also expressed Iran’s interest in working with China on high-speed rail and highway construction, highlighting the vast potential for collaboration.

President Xi, for his part, stressed China’s readiness to deepen ties with Iran with a forward-looking approach. He said the two sides can accelerate the implementation of previous agreements, including those reached at their meeting in Kazan, and expand cooperation in various fields.

Xi described the military attacks against Iran as blatant violations of international law, stressing that “force is never the solution to problems.”

He reaffirmed Iran’s status as China’s strategic partner, calling for serious cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to counter unilateralism.

Recognizing Iran’s legitimate right to peaceful nuclear energy, the Chinese leader said that despite the US and Western sanctions, China has maintained avenues of cooperation with Iran and remains ready to broaden relations on a win-win basis, particularly in connectivity projects.

He added that, as stated at the Shanghai Plus summit a day earlier, all nations deserve respect, and efforts to establish peace and stability in the region must be supported.
