Israeli Soldier Charged with Spying for Iran as Regime Grapples with Rising Internal Dissent – World news
An Israeli soldier has been arrested and indicted for allegedly contacting Iranian intelligence and passing along information in exchange for money.
Israeli media reported on Thursday that the military prosecution charged the soldier with “contact with a foreign agent and providing intelligence to the enemy.”
The details reportedly shared by the soldier were not classified as highly sensitive but included images of missile strike locations and a video of interceptor activity.
These leaks occurred during last month’s 12-day Israeli aggression against Iran, during which the regime attempted to censor the locations of Iranian missile impacts across occupied territories.
The arrest was carried out by the Israeli Police, Shin Bet internal security service, and the so-called Lahav 433 crime unit.
The soldier will remain in custody at least until Tuesday as investigations continue.
In a related case, a 33-year-old teacher from the Negev was also indicted Thursday for allegedly “carrying out acts at the instruction of Iranian agents in exchange for pay.”
These arrests are the latest in a string of espionage cases revealing the growing number of Israelis willing to collaborate with Iran.
On Wednesday, the regime launched a public relations campaign dubbed “Easy Money, Heavy Price,” attempting to deter settlers from what it called cooperation with Iran.
The campaign, which will include ads on radio, websites and social media, aims to “raise awareness of the phenomenon of Israeli settlers cooperating with Iran, carrying out security missions for Iran inside occupied territories,” reads a release from the Israeli cabinet’s press office on Wednesday.
According to regime officials quoted by The Times of Israel, the alleged missions involved photographing sensitive locations, transporting mock weapons, and preparing ground for assassinations.
Regime divisions and internal instability, intensified by months of political turmoil, are believed to be pushing more Israelis to cooperate with Iran.
Shin Bet and Israeli police claim they have identified more than 25 cases of attempted recruitment by Iranian intelligence over the past year, with over 35 individuals indicted.
This wave of arrests comes just weeks after Israel launched an unprovoked and illegal aggression against Iran on June 13, which included the assassination of several top Iranian military commanders, nuclear experts, and civilians.
In response, Iran unleashed a precise and devastating missile campaign against Israeli military and industrial targets, forcing Tel Aviv into a ceasefire by June 24.
